Course

The course is amazing! Check out all the details on our Course Page! Just don’t ask us for a map – we use way too much private property, so don’t provide a map until a couple days before the race.

Start/Finish Location and Parking

The start and finish for all racers is at the Philipstown Rec located at 107 Glenclyffe, Garrison, NY 10524, off Rt 9D.

Getting Here

By Train:

Yes – you can take public transportation to the race!

Take the Metro-North (schedule) from Grand Central or places north to Garrison Station.

At Garrison Station, walk south through the parking until you reach a wide trail. Walk straight on the trail, then straight through a grassy field until you see the start. It’s just over a mile. You’ll intersect some course markings but don’t follow those unless you want to take a long cut!

By Car:

The race is located on 107 Glenclyffe, Garrison, NY 10524 – off Rt 9D.

Parking will be at the Rec Center. Look for a parking volunteer to direct you to a spot.

Chip Timing

The race will be chip timed for both the 5k and 1/2 marathon. Chips are attached to the bibs, so make sure you don’t fold or crease it where the chip is attached.

Cutoffs

The cut-off time for the 1/2 Marathon is 1 pm. This should allow plenty of time for all runners to finish.

There is no cut-off time for the 5k. It’s a beautiful loop to run, walk, or hike at your leisure – all while supporting the Philipstown Rec.

Sweepers and Dropping Out

Please note that if aid station personnel or course sweeper determine that a runner must exit the race, their word will be final!

Please accept that they are acting in your best interests as well as the best interests of the race and all concerned.

If you need to drop, please be sure to drop at an aid station. Tell the race director or an aid station volunteer that you are not continuing.

Aid Stations

There will be one aid station for 1/2 marathon runners that can be accessed twice during the race – at mile 5.5 and mile 8. This is a single aid station that runners will pass while doing a short loop.

There will be no aid station for the 5k. Please plan accordingly.

The 1/2 marathon aid station will consist of basic supplies: water, sports drink, and maybe some fruit and other carbs. We won’t have gels, etc at the aid station. Please plan on taking any supplementary hydration and nutrition with you as you deem fit.

Bag Drop

Please note that we do not offer an official bag drop. But parking is not far from the start and finish so you will be able to reach your car if you need to stash your bag.

You are also free to drop a bag inside the Rec itself or outside near one of tents. Just keep in mind we are not responsible for stolen or missing items.

Finisher Award

All race entrants will receive a finisher’s award t-shirt.

You must sign-up by Sunday, September 28th to be guaranteed a shirt in your size.

We will have a limited number of shirts for runners who register after the 13th which will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Other Awards

We will have awards for the top 3 men and women in the 5k and 1/2 marathon. There are no age category awards for either of these races.

The kids fun run is just for fun – there is no scoring or place awards. But we will have a small award for all kids who participate.

Refund Policy

The Castle to River race will be held rain or shine. As this is a not-for-profit fundraiser for the Philipstown Recreation Department, we cannot provide refunds to participants.

Only in the event that the race is canceled by the organizers (The Friends of the Philipstown Recreation Department) will refunds (less the non-refundable Ultrasignup service fee) be issued.

Other Rules

Headphones are not advised. There are multiple road crossings and sections with narrow singletrack where you need to know if someone is behind you.

No dogs. We love dogs but not safe for other runners.

Spectators

Spectators are allowed on the sections of the course open to the public. This is most of the course excluding the golf course (5k and 1/2) and the Osborn Castle and Forest Farm road area (1/2).
